    Peter Carew is the Director of Carew Counsel Solicitors, having commenced the practice in 1979.

    Peter has a genuine passion for helping people. Furthermore, with his ability to present complex issues in simple, easy-to-understand language and his great sense of humour, he is not only a skilled communicator but sought after speaker.

    Peter was accredited as a specialist in Family Law in 1990 and served on the Family Law Specialist Accreditation Committee of the Law Institute of Victoria for 10 years. Peter has degrees in both Economics and Law from Monash University and is a graduate of the Leo Cussen Institute for continuing Legal Education. In 2012, 2014 and 2016 Doyle’s Guide named him a Leading Family Lawyer for Victoria.

    Peter was a founding member of Law Australasia, a group of like minded client focused legal firms that pursue excellence in the practice of the law.

    He brings nearly four decades of years of legal practice to Carew Counsel, as well as a keen ability to get to the nub of the problem. Finding sensible and pragmatic solutions to the most complex issues is a key area of Peter’s expertise. As well as working with and mentoring the family lawyers in the firm, he also seeks to be personally involved in every case the firm handles as a way of ensuring the highest level of advice and problem solving is given.

    Susan Scott-Mackenzie

    Senior Associate, Accredited Family Law Specialist

    Susan Scott-Mackenzie obtained a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from Melbourne University and was admitted to practice as a solicitor in 1979. She worked for various firms before joining Carew Counsel in 2000 after taking time out from family law for several years to care for her children.

    She obtained her accreditation as a specialist in family law in 2003.

    Susan has over twenty years’ experience practising exclusively in all areas of family law and its associated jurisdictions. Over the years, she has served on various committees and been involved in the presentation of legal education events.

    Her knowledge and love of learning, adds value to our team. With a focus on development for our team, Susan conducts regular seminars at Carew Counsel and maintains current knowledge of the continual changes in family law and its associated jurisdictions by regular attendance at legal education programs, which in turn benefits our clients.

    Benita Crocker

    Benita Crocker has worked exclusively in the area of family law for over eighteen years, having graduated with a double degree of Bachelor of Arts/Law in 1998. She was a Senior Associate with Hogg and Reid Solicitors prior to joining Carew Counsel Solicitors. Benita became an Accredited Family Law Specialist in 2015.

    Benita possesses extensive experience in all aspects of family law including complex children and property matters (international matters included), spousal maintenance, binding financial agreements, child support agreements and intervention orders.

    She has previously volunteered at the Fitzroy Legal Service and Women’s Legal Service, and has also worked with the Australian Government Solicitor.

    When litigation is required, she is a strong advocate and often appears at interim hearings in Court on behalf of her clients.

    She is focused on resolving matters in a pragmatic, cost effective and timely manner.

    Louise Date

    Senior Associate, Accredited Family Law Specialist and Estate Planning Lawyer

    Louise Date holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne. She was admitted to practice in Victoria and in all Federal Courts of Australia in 1985.

    She joined Carew Counsel Solicitors in 2006.

    Louise has almost thirty years practise in the law and before joining Carew Counsel practised primarily in civil litigation and also in private client work mainly in Estate Planning.

    Since joining Carew Counsel, she now practises solely in Family Law and Estate Planning and became an Accredited Family Law Specialist in 2011.

    She has extensive experience in Wills and Estates, as well as in litigation involving disputed wills. Louise is involved in the Wills and Estate Planning specialist division of the Law Australasia Group.

    Keleigh Robinson

    Keleigh is passionate about family law and works hard to achieve practical solutions for her clients.

    Holding a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Laws degree (Honours) from Deakin University and a Master of Applied Law (Family Law) from the Colleague of Law, Keleigh obtained her accreditation as a specialist in family law from the Law Institute of Victoria in 2011.

    She is experienced in all aspects of family law including: divorce, property, parenting, spousal maintenance, child support, financial agreements, contravention and enforcement applications.

    Prior to joining Carew Counsel in 2008, Keleigh complete her articles and worked in a suburban legal practice, gaining experience in a variety of areas of law, before deciding to specialise in family law.

    Keleigh has experience appearing in the Family Court of Australia, the Federal Circuit Court of Australia and the Magistrates Court.

    Over the years, Keleigh has volunteered at Womens Legal Service Victoria, Inner Melbourne Legal Service and Eastern Community Legal Centre.

    Keleigh has previously been a member of a number of Law Institute committees, specifically the Junior Family Lawyers Committee, Maintenance and Property Committee and the Family Law Executive Committee.

    In addition to practising law at Carew Counsel, Keleigh is a contributing author to ByLawyers family law publication and is a panellist on The Family Law Book’s legal helpline.

    Bronwyn Gunning

    Bronwyn Gunning holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (Honours) from the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Sydney.

    Bronwyn has been practising primarily in the area of family law since being admitted as a solicitor in 2005. Bronwyn became an Accredited Family Law Specialist in 2015.

    She is experienced in all aspects of family law including: property, parenting, spouse maintenance, child support, financial agreements and contravention applications. She also practises in the areas of wills and estate planning, along with litigation involving will disputes.

    She is also available to assist in the areas of Enduring Powers of Attorney (both Medical Treatment and Financial) and Enduring Powers of Guardianship.

    Prior to joining Carew Counsel, Bronwyn worked as a paralegal for Counsel while completing her studies and then as a solicitor for a suburban legal practice. In this role, she gained experience representing clients in a range of diverse, often challenging and complex matters.

    Throughout her legal career, she has regularly appeared in the Family Court of Australia, the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, and the Supreme Court as well as in local courts and tribunals.

    Bronwyn prides herself on her friendly yet professional approach and on delivering legal services in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

    Jana was admitted to practice in 2006 after completing a Bachelor of Law (with Honours) from Victoria University in 2005. Since her admission into the legal practice, she has practised exclusively in family law. Jana was an Associate at Hogg and Reid prior to joining Carew Counsel Solicitors.

    She is experienced in all areas of family law, including complex financial and parenting matters.

    She also has substantial experience representing clients in the Family Court and Federal Circuit Court of Australia, as well as representing clients in relation to their family violence and intervention order matters. She is also a member of the Law Institute of Victoria.

    Jana is focused on achieving the best results for clients in a practical and thoughtful manner.

    Sally graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in 2007 and a Bachelor of Laws in 2011 from La Trobe University.  Sally completed her Master of Applied Law (Family Law) from the College of Law in 2014.

    Prior to joining Carew Counsel, Sally gained experience in a suburban firm and a CBD Asian Australian firm.  During that time, Sally increased her understanding of the issues clients face in relation to family law when from different backgrounds and cultures.

    Sally has experience in various areas of family law including financial and parenting matters and has appeared in the Family Court of Australia, the Federal Circuit Court of Australia and the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria on behalf of her clients. She is also a member of the Law Institute of Victoria.

    Sally is professional and approachable, focused on attaining the best outcome in the circumstances for her clients.

    Brynne Allen

    Brynne was admitted to practice in 2011 after completing her Bachelor of Law from the University of Technology, Sydney. She has subsequently also attained her Master of Applied Law (family law) and Graduate Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution from the College of Law in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

    She is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and is also a qualified Collaborative Practitioner.

    Prior to and since relocating to Melbourne from Sydney and joining Carew Counsel, Brynne has worked exclusively in family law since gaining extensive experience across multiple diverse and challenging aspects of family law matters.

    Brynne is dedicated to helping clients reach agreement about issues arising from the breakdown of their relationship with their partner. Her commitment, understanding and practical approach ensures that her clients receive a personal service and secure an optimum outcome as expeditiously as possible. Brynne’s strong communication and interpersonal skills also ensure that the best needs of her clients are met.

    Anna was admitted to practice in 2015 after completing Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) at Monash University in 2014.

    Since joining Carew Counsel, Anna has practised exclusively in family law. Anna developed a passion for family law while at university, during which time she regularly volunteered at the Family Law Assistance Program run by Monash Oakleigh Legal Service. Anna has experience in various areas of family law, including parenting, property, child support and intervention orders. She is also a member of the Law Institute of Victoria.

    Anna has an empathetic approach and is focused on delivering the best possible outcomes for her clients.

    Prior to joining Carew Counsel, Anna practised as a solicitor in a top tier commercial law firm in a wide range of practise areas, including general commercial litigation, property law, employment law and administrative law. During this time, Anna gained extensive experience in all stages of the litigation process, advising and acting on matters in multiple jurisdictions, including in the Federal Court, the Federal Circuit Court and the Supreme Court of Victoria.

    Alexander works in both our Family Law and Estate Planning teams.

    Alexander was admitted to practice in 2018, having completed a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Commercial Law and Management) in 2014 and a Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) in 2017.

    Since 2013, he has worked in several roles at Carew Counsel Solicitors, including as a business strategist and paralegal.

    He is passionate about combining his commerce and legal knowledge in exploring complex property related matters, estate planning and assisting clients in reaching pragmatic solutions.

    Alexander also represented Australia on the world stage in Athletics, competing throughout Europe and Asia from 2011 to 2016.

    Morgan Jaguar is a duel solicitor and paralegal with Carew Counsel. She completed a Bachelor of Science and Honours in Environmental Science at Deakin University and went on to complete a Bachelor of Laws at Monash University in 2009.

    Morgan was admitted to practice in 2011 and joined the Hogg and Reid team in 2012. She has been with Carew Counsel since their merge with Hogg and Reid in 2013.

    Morgan is available for agency engagement including divorce appearances and subpoena inspections.

    Kimberley is the Accounts Manager of Carew Counsel and has been with the firm since 2008. She holds a Diploma in Accounting and is now currently completing a Bachelor of Business at Swinburne University.

    Kimberley is responsible for all financial matters relating to the firm, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, credit control, payroll and financial accounting.

    Kimberley is passionate about working with clients to provide support and strategy throughout their matters to best accommodate their financial circumstances.

    Danielle Carew is the Practice Manager of Carew Counsel Solicitors, a highlight for her was being awarded ‘Practice Manager of the Year’ in 2017 by Law Australasia.

    She commenced working at the firm in 2007 and took up the position as Practice Manager in 2014. She holds both a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor (postgraduate law degree).

    She is passionate about innovation in the law, and building the best possible environment for the Carew Counsel team to assist their clients.

    Thomas is the Client Services & Marketing Manager at Carew Counsel and has been at the firm since 2011. Initially employed as a Marketing Coordinator, Thomas has relished his new customer based role.

    Combining a Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University with a background in customer service and the hospitality industry, Thomas loves the opportunity to liaise with clients. Thomas aims to ensure our clients experience with Carew Counsel goes as smoothly as possible, in what can often be a difficult time.

    Thomas loves music, travel and any type of sport. He continues to be involved with his local soccer club and competes with the Carew Counsel triathlon team every year.

    Understanding the challenging times associated with family law, Kirsten is passionate about the client experience and finds it rewarding to see the transformation of clients from when she first meets them up to the completion of their matter.

    Kirsten values time spent with her partner and her two sons and enjoys AFL, reading biographies, crime novels and dining out.
