At Court, you may hear a Judge ask whether any matters need to be ‘stood down’. When cases are stood down this means that the case is effectively put on hold to enable the parties’ legal representatives to discuss the case and to define and narrow the issues in dispute. The majority of cases in the Duty List are stood down for a short period of time for discussions to take place.
