The Certificate of Title refers to the piece of paper evidencing legal ownership of land (“real property”) under what is called the “Torrens system” (the majority of land in Victoria falls under this system). The Certificate of Title is issued to the legal registered owner of the land by the Registrar of Titles – there is only one Certificate of Title for each parcel of land so be careful to keep it in a safe place.
