Difference between Senior Registrar and a Judge:
Judges are the most senior members of the Family Court and Federal Circuit Court.
If your matter is in the Family Court of Australia, it is likely that your case will be heard before the Senior Registrar prior to your allocation to a Judge for a Contested Interim Hearing or Trial.
A Senior Registrar has power to make some, but not all Orders. For example, a Senior Registrar does not have the power to make a final order for parenting arrangements unless it is made with the consent of all the parties to the proceedings. The Senior Registrar is only able to make a parenting order on an interim basis, which is typically expressed using the phrase “until further Order”.
