IMPORTANT CHANGES TO DE FACTO LAW
The legislation governing de facto relationships in Victoria is changing as of 1
December 2008. The changes will significantly alter the entitlements of parties
who are in, or have been in de facto relationships. In light of the changes we are
holding de facto specific seminars, to address the effects of the changes in legislation
on individual's rights.
The de facto law seminars will be held each third week and will be addressing the
current position of de facto partners, including their rights regarding the division
of property and superannuation under the Property Law Act and the changes to the
division of property of de facto partners when the Relationships Act comes into
effect in December 2008.
The de facto seminars will also address steps people can take to protect their assets,
whether they are contemplating entering a de facto relationship, currently in a
de facto relationship, or have previously been in a de facto relationship
